Ireland v New Zealand Match Reports
Lacklustre Ireland were beaten 23-13 by New Zealand in their opening autumn Test at the Aviva Stadium. A cagey first half saw Jack Crowley kick two penalties for Ireland and his opposite number Damian McKenzie kick three, resulting in a narrow 9-6 half-time lead for the All Blacks. Josh van der Flier scored the first try of the match early in the second half to take the home side into the lead. Ireland's indiscipline resulted in more penalty opportunities for McKenzie who struck three more times to take the visitors back into a five-point lead. Things got worse for the home side when Will Jordan swept across the line to extend the All Blacks lead to ten points with ten minutes remaining. Ireland pushed for a breakthrough in the closing stages, but New Zealand held firm and closed out a match that failed to provide any fireworks on the pitch.
