Ireland v South Africa Match Reports
Ireland were defeated 24-13 by South Africa in a bruising and often chaotic Test match in Dublin. The Springboks stunned their hosts with an early try from Damian Willemse in an explosive start. An ill-disciplined first half saw Ireland receive three yellow cards and a 20-minute red, reducing them to 12 men at one point. Cobus Reinach added a second try for the visitors before Dan Sheehan replied with Ireland's first score. A penalty try extended South Africa's lead to 19-7 by half-time. After the break, Ireland remained under extreme pressure. Sam Prendergast kicked a couple of penalties, but a try from Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu kept the Springboks firmly out in front. Ireland were shown a fifth card just after the hour mark, but managed to survive the sin-bin period without conceding thanks to some last-ditch defending. The match ended in frantic fashion as South Africa were reduced to 14 men and Ireland went desperately searching for a consolation score, but it wasn't to come.
