Wales snatched a dramatic 24-23 victory over Japan with the final kick of the match in Cardiff. Dan Edwards had given Wales the perfect start when he jinked over the line to score a try in the sixth minute, but Kippei Ishida soon replied for the visitors to level the scores. Japan then survived two yellow cards without conceding further points as the first half ended 7-7. After the break, Josh Adams was shown a 20-minute red card for a dangerous clearout late in the first half. The lead then changed hands several times as Seungsin Lee kicked three penalties and Faolua Makisi crossed for Japan, while Louis Rees-Zammit and Nick Tompkins responded with tries for Wales. Japan led by two points going into the final 10 minutes and appeared to have the momentum to close out the match, but a late penalty gave Wales one final chance.
