South Africa ground out a 26-3 victory over host nation Japan in their World Cup quarter-final in Tokyo. Wing Makazole Mapimpi scored a try after just four minutes to give the Springboks a flying start. Japan played with their usual high intensity and were just two points adrift at half-time. After the break, South Africa used the driving maul to great effect and Japan had no answer to it. Handre Pollard kicked three ensuing penalties before Faf de Klerk and Mapimpi scored two further tries for the Boks. A selection of match reports is listed below:
